In collaboration with Malmö University and the City of Malmö, we are developing a new property on Universitetsholmen.
Situated in a central location next to Malmö University's landmark building, Niagara, the Malmö Amphitrite 1 property is set for development. In collaboration with Malmö University and the City of Malmö, we are planning and constructing a new building for the university’s future use. The zoning process is currently in progress and is expected to be finalized by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
The property is currently home to the university’s student union, which will also have a place in the new building. Inside, there will be public spaces, lecture halls, offices, and staff areas. This project contributes to strengthening and developing Universitetsholmen as one of Malmö’s key university hubs.

"Warehouse of Knowledge" - The Winning Proposal
The parallel commission for the design and development of a new university building in the Amphitrite block, initiated by Wihlborgs Fastigheter in collaboration with the City of Malmö and Malmö University, has now been completed.
A pre-qualification process was conducted, attracting 32 applicants, from which three teams were selected for the task:
- C.F. Møller Architects / Förstberg Ling / Softer
- White / Assemble
- Tham & Videgård / Reppen Vilson / Kragh Berglund
The project spanned approximately three months, beginning in January, with an interim review in March. In June, two of the teams continued with further refinement as part of an additional assignment.
The winning proposal was created by Team C.F. Møller / Förstberg Ling / Softer, with the following jury statement:
"Warehouse of Knowledge demonstrates a deep sensitivity to the unique character of the site and is designed in harmonious interaction with its surroundings and its closest university neighbor, Niagara. The building invites and connects all floors, offering a variety of meeting spaces and environments, both inside and in relation to the surrounding area. This approach creates the conditions for a vibrant campus environment that also becomes an integrated part of the city. The team’s ability to engage with the task is reflected in an architectural approach that, with respect for cultural history and the introduction of innovative ideas, makes the building a worthy representative of the socially engaged academy that the university embodies."
Winning architecture
The winning proposal preserves parts of the existing warehouse building and highlights traces of the area's maritime and industrial history.

New building for Malmö University
Wihlborgs and Malmö University have signed an implementation agreement for parallel architectural assignments, planning, construction, and ultimately the leasing of a new building for Malmö University. The property, Malmö Amphitrite 1, is centrally located next to the university’s landmark building, Niagara.
